Drop-In Centre, The Fish- Bulgaria
Related to country: Denmark

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Drop-in centre “The Fish” is a non-profit organization supporting the children of Haskovo, Bulgaria.

As a result of various problems with their family and education these children are lost to society. Most of the time they are to be seen hanging out in the streets, not participating in ordinary activities, such as youth activities, sports clubs etc.

Street culture is oppressive. It is the survival of the fittest. Inevitably these children become gang members, involved in criminal activities.

Our concept is preventive. We hope to keep the children away from the environment of narcotics and prostitution, which all leads to crime.

Through meaningful activities the project aims to supply the children with knowledge of their human rights, and with the experiences and tools to take an active part in a democratic society. They will learn to take responsibility for themselves and for others too.

Our strongest pedagogic tool is the expeditions we organise into the countryside, outside the town of Haskovo. These Sunday and weekend trips let our users experience life as a scout, away from stupid grown ups!

Drop-I centre “The Fish” makes a difference for our clients, the children of the streets of Haskovo.

Rules: No Alcohol, Narcotics or Violence.

We are not well known so please join our support group “Fiskens Venner” (Friends of The Fish).

We are an authorized organization, required to report a balanced account every year.

New Call of EuroMed Network for Youth Trafficking Prevention

Dear Friends,

EuroMed Network for Youth Trafficking Prevention (EMNYTP) is the first Euro-Mediterranean partnership dealing with prevention of trafficking of young people. EMNYTP was initiated in the UK in August 2005 and registered as an independent NGO in September 2006 in Greece.

EMNYTP is the only initiative in the region that provides a platform for cooperation, exchange of ideas, support for project development and databases with educational resources and experts on youth trafficking prevention.

By now our Network covers 23 countries, represented by 74 organizations and independent experts, working for youth trafficking prevention via research, human rights educational programs, human rights advocacy and lobbying for youth and immigration policy improvement.

Our first events started from February 2006 in the following countries: UK, Greece, FYROM, Bulgaria, Turkey, Hungary (European Youth Center, Budapest). Local and national events, organized by EMNYTP on human rights education for youth trafficking prevention are negotiated for 2007 across 11 more European and Mediterranean countries.

We are supported by the Council of Europe, YOUTH Program of European Commission, British Council, Euro-Mediterranean Youth Platform, European Youth Forum, International Organization for Migration, Global Youth Coalition on AIDS, UN Department on Trafficking, Child Rights International, Balkan Human Rights Network and many other international organizations.

We are now running our Second Call for National Coordinators and Associated Centers in all European and Mediterranean countries. This Call is addressed to organizations and motivated and enthusiastic professionals with long-term commitment to youth trafficking prevention.
